"DON'T TALK TO ME ABOUT
GOD!"
So how do you get people to check God out? You mention God to many folks and they immediately turn the volume down and throw up a wall! Why? Most have seen nothing but the hypocrisy and double standards of religious people. A group of 'holier than thou' people who think they are all that..that point their finger at everyone and say.."YOU NEED TO GET TO WHERE I AM FAST OR YOU'LL BURN IN HELL!" Well..I remember that attitude when I was on the outside looking in. Yes...Those kind of people made me MAD and I would immediately get an attitude with them when they come up slingin their 'religion' on me. I remember being 'slammed' by some religious people when I was out there. They usually waited till I was in front of my friends and ..they just had this 'snurl' on their face and they would look at me...like they were above me and I was just a lowly sinner dog! Heh heh..Well...needless to say..That was not the way anyone was going to get me to even think about GOD! My wife's daddy invited me to their little church and treated me like a human being. My long hair and leather jacket didn't matter to him. Another pastor came out in the parking lot and hugged me one morning while I was waiting on Mary to get out of there. His suit and tie..my leather & long hair...IT WAS A REAL HUG..& I FELT IT! It made a huge impact on me. After being in ministry for almost 30 years..dealing with some of the hardest cases and attitudes there are on the planet...I can definitely say...that kind of 'phony' witness HURTS more than it HELPS! Like many others reading this, I have had the opportunity to lead some really tough, mean people to God over the years. I have listened to them tell me why they would never come to church...and never want to be a 'bible thumper'...then later seen those same people on their knees, crying.. asking God to come in. So..what is the technique? Not a technique..just a powerful, natural, Jesus characteristic.. "BEING REAL." Eddie..What does that mean? The bible says.. He that wins souls is wise. So you can say.."He that don't win souls is unwise"..(So I'll use that term to label those type of people.) It is letting your light shine..without being judgmental. It is understanding that whoever you are talking to is a person...and if they are in the category of 'someone needing God', then don't expect them to understand or respect your 'religious' talk. (Like quoting scripture while you shake your bible at them!) Don't you get mad at me..I'm tryin to help you! There are exceptions. People who have 'raisins'..(Rai'sins- Hillbilly slang_ RAISINGS: Someone who has some respect and maybe a few Christian values instilled in them from childhood.) You know ..'thank you'..'no thank you'.'.Yes maam'..'Yes sir'..please' ect ect. Those folks are a little more tolerant to 'unwise' soul winners, and they may be nice and listen to some of their ranting. I remember a guy many years ago that was a 12..on a scale from 1-10..of hard cases. He HATED Christian people. He told me more than once he hated people in general..and especially Christians. (But he would make a small exception in my case!) He watched me like a hawk for many months as we shared a hobby and would trade with each other on occasion. (You can't live in WV and not know how to trade!) I NEVER verbally witnessed to him during that time...but I did witness with my life style. YOU KNOW-Preach the Gospel to every creature, using words if necessary! I was honest in all of our deals. I didn't talk like a robot..you know, spouting scripture every time I opened my mouth. I didn't get caught up in trashing other people..(though he tried to pull me into many conversations). I really liked this dude. I seen a guy who had been run over and stomped by religious people. He had a big heart and tenderness with his wife & child & his pets. I seen through the 'mean.'I diligently prayed for him and asked God to help me BE REAL and reach out to him. We were around each other more & more..We went fishing a time or two. He would constantly talk about 'killing' people who had hurt him, and I knew he meant it. During this time I had some 'well meaning' church folk tell me what a dangerous man I was running around with and Id better be careful! heheheheh... Every once and awhile he would ask me a bible question. You know, "If there is a God, why does he let all of this *^%$#@ stuff happen to good people?!" I would answer and try and remember that he was on the outside looking in..You CAN'T understand things like that until you look at it with a spiritual mind, or perspective. I can't say I fully understand every thing in this world...and I can't say I have all the answers to life..but GOD DOES! When I wasn't sure of a right way to answer ..I told him "I DON'T KNOW BRO." He later told me that blew his mind..hehehe.. That I didn't act like I knew everything! Well most Christian folks are bad to try and explain everything even when they aren't sure..and most folks like him immediately see through that..Amen!? (BEING REAL! I'm not perfect & I don't know everything!) Yep..That will preach! Long story short..he called one night, months later, and asked me to come down. He took me in a back room of his house and started 'dumping'. I mean..everything that was wrong..how dissatisfied he was with life.. how he was sick of this whole !#@$@%@^@ world! I looked him square in the eye and said, : "Are you ready to let God fix you now?" He started squallin! I led him to the Lord that night. Through the tears and snot and occasional 'cuss' he was sincerely asking for forgiveness!.. It was amazing watching God fix this brothers life there in the back room of his house. When we were done.. he went and washed his face. When he walked back in he was lit up like a Christmas tree! You know.."That high pro glow!" To wrap this up..let me say once more..I don't think I know everything. But I do know this..God loves you and He has been 'mis represented' by so many unwise people, it has turned many of you off. I just want to ask you, to get your eyes off of goofy people...and get alone and talk to Him. Just talk to Him! Find you a place somewhere where you can hear the bible taught correctly ..slip in back..and just listen. If you are not around us, let me know, and maybe we can help you find a place in your area. Yes, there are places to go..ask God to show you where. I love this old saying I heard once about hypocrites ..."I'd rather go to church with a few of them, than go to hell with all of them!"
